Putting women first: ethical and safety recommendations for research on violence against women
Overview
This second edition of "Putting women first: Ethical and safety recommendations for research on violence against women" updates the landmark 2001 WHO guidance that has underpinned violence against women research for more than 25 years. The new edition provides updated guidance to help ensure that women’s safety, privacy, confidentiality and well-being remain paramount, while also safeguarding research teams and data quality. It expands the original guidance on prevalence surveys to encompass intervention and qualitative research, research in emergency and conflict-affected settings, and the use of remote research methods. The guidance emphasizes: "It is essential that funders and researchers alike make a firm commitment to women’s safety by following these guidelines and never put research objectives above women’s well-being."
