Public health intelligence for a safer world: WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence strategy 2026–2030

Overview

The World Health Organization’s Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence brings countries, partners and innovators together to strengthen the capabilities needed to detect, understand and respond to health threats. Established in Berlin in 2021, the Hub works with more than 160 Member States and 190 partner organizations and networks. This strategy sets out the Hub’s direction towards 2030 in a context of increasingly interconnected health threats, rapid technological change and persistent gaps in surveillance capacity.

With the ambition of detecting and understanding new health threats within 24 hours of their emergence, the strategy introduces four strategic objectives focused on stronger surveillance systems, faster detection through innovation, better-informed decisions through applied analytics and knowledge translation, and trusted digital foundations. It also explains how five interconnected initiatives will advance these objectives by strengthening surveillance, open-source intelligence, analytical collaboration, pathogen surveillance and digital capabilities, supported by global collaboration, innovation and the mobilization of expertise and resources.
